Eurasia Motorsport rounded out the weekend in Shanghai with a solid points haul to move to third in the championship with just two rounds left, in only their first year of competing in the series.

Daniel Miranda started the weekends first of two races in eighth position with teammate Gao Hua Yang in 14th, the latter just missing out on a top 12 place at the end of qualifying one.

Finishing the first lap in sixth place, Daniel had a good race start, whilst Gao made an electrifying start making up seven places and tagging onto the rear bumper of his teammate.

Gao then made up another place at Daniel’s expense and along with three other competitors began a fraught battle for a top six finish.

Daniel was soon back in sixth place before losing a handful of positions in a body rubbing place change. This also delayed Gao who dropped back to eleventh which is where he ultimately finished. Daniel looked set for a first place in the Asian Driver Class when an off on the final lap dropped him to second in class and tenth overall.

In race two, Daniel made a good start and ran in second for the first two opening laps having qualified in third place. Gao also made up positions with the Chinese driver starting down in eleventh place.

In a fraught battle, Daniel and Diego Moran swapped paint in a side by side battle, running in tandem for half a lap. This allowed Luca Engstler, Pepe Oriola and Daniel Lloyd to escape, leaving Daniel and Diego a couple of seconds adrift at the flag.

Daniel crossed the line in first place in the Asian Driver Class and fifth overall. Gao again made a great from recovery drive from 14th, reaching eighth before he lost out in a four-car battle. Unfortunately his Hyundai was tipped into a half spin from a tap from behind and he finished the race in eleventh overall, narrowly missing out on the top ten.

Both drivers drove brilliantly to end the event on a high note. Daniel remains fourth in the drivers’ championship standings while Gao has been promoted to eighth overall. The team have moved up to third place in the teams’ standings and head to the next round in Zhejiang seeking further success with another podium.

Eurasia Motorsport Team Principal, Mark Goddard:

“It was great to see Daniel run at the front again today, mixing it with drivers of far greater experience. Gao once again proved to be the first lap king, gaining a total of 12 places over the opening laps of the two races. The next round is in Zhejiang and Eurasia has raced there twice, in LMP3 and GT3, winning both times so we hope to make it three in a row!”
