As a result of the COVID-19 situation, and in full agreement between the ACO, the FIA and the FIA WEC promoter, the following provisional calendar has been put in place to conclude the 2019-2020 FIA WEC season.
The WEC’s Season 8 will restart with the TOTAL 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday 15th August, the traditional prelude to the 24 Hours of Le Mans which will be held on 19/20th September.
The 88th 24 Hours of Le Mans will follow a particularly action-packed four-day schedule that promises to be as intense and as exciting as ever. Between Thursday 17 and Sunday 20 September, we will see four free practice sessions, qualifying, the new Hyperpole session and a warm-up, culminating with the 24-hour endurance race itself.
The traditional scrutineering procedures will take place at the Circuit on Wednesday before the cars take to the track on Thursday for the free practice sessions, qualifying and night-time practice. Friday will see more practice sessions and the much-awaited new Hyperpole shoot-out where 24 competitors will battle it out on the 13.626-km circuit in a test of sheer speed, without the “heavy traffic”! The race itself will start at 14:30 on Saturday, with a 62-strong grid.
The 88th 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place with a smaller crowd than usual. Entry will be granted to all racegoers who have booked their tickets before June 29. Ticket sales have been suspended until further notice, pending government announcements and according to the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic. The TOTAL 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps will be held behind closed doors.
