Kyle Mitchell was an impressive third overall in round two of the Formula BMW Asia Series with team mate, Akhil Khushlani, duplicating his first race fifth finish. Mitchell was also first in the Rookie Class with Akhil taking second place.
Akhil made a great start to latch onto the back of third placed Zahir Ali but undid all the good work by flying off the road and handing his fourth place to team mate Mitchell, the latter having a great first lap from tenth on the grid. Khushlani regained the circuit and settled into fifth place holding off Jamison for the balance of the race. Jazeman, Ali and Mitchell were having a fraught race for second allowing Grunwell to open a gap in the lead. Ali made a do or die effort to pass Jazeman at turn one, lost momentum allowing Mitchell to pass into T4 and take third place. The final quarter of the race saw Ali trying all he knew to retake the place but Mitchell belied his inexperience and held the Indonesian off to the flag.
“In Kushlani and Mitchell we have two rookie drivers who have already demonstrated they possess the speed to win the rookie championship and with Mitchell already having his first podium in the overall series we are sure both drivers can progress into race winners” reported Mark Goddard of Eurasia.
Rounds three and four take place tomorrow, Sunday May 6th.
