The reigning GT3 Asia Team Champions will enter new Matech Ford GT3 cars in this year’s GT Asia Series with Frank Yu, Samson Chan and Eric Cheung behind the wheel. The team will also run two of their Ginetta G50Z GT3 cars in the Malaysian F1 Grand Prix MSS support race on April 10th.
The cars will race at the first round of the series which will take place at the Asian Festival of Speed event at Sepang on May 27-29th. “The cars look very exciting and having a new make of car join the series adds to the spectacle of the region’s premier GT championship” reports Mark Goddard of Craft Eurasia. “The Ginetta will definitely be competitive at the Malaysian F1 support race and we think we have a good chance for both Frank and Samson getting on the podium”.
The Ford GT has a direct line back to the evocative Ford GT40 Le Mans winning cars of the sixties and will certainly be a favourite with GT enthusiasts. The 5 litre V8 engine will be “music to the ears” of any motorsport enthusiast. The cars are built by Swiss company, Matech Engineering. The state of the art GT3 cars have won races in European FIA GT3 and should be competitive in GT Asia.
“Last year we started late with the Ginettas, they arrived the week of the first race, but by the second event we had a good handle on the cars and went on to win the Team Championship” stated Craft Eurasia’s Mark Goddard. “We also saw our drivers greatly improved over the season and that contributed to the performance of the cars. Craft Eurasia brought the same levels of data and driver coaching we use in our successful Junior Formula driver development teams and I believe this reflected in the greater speed demonstrated by the drivers as the season progressed.”
