Aaron Lim was fastest Minardi Team Asia driver in qualifying for both rounds 7 and 8 of the Asian Formula BMW Series at the Goldenport Circuit in Beijing. Lim was followed by Dejan De Zoysa and Jonathan Chan.
Salman Khalifa, Michael Patrizi and Hamad Al Fardan headed the time sheets in both sessions. Round 7 has Charlez in fourth followed by Won, Ebrahim, Boughey, Lim, De Zoysa with Chan in twelfth place. Won was fourth in round 8 from Charlez, Ebrahim, Boughey, Lim, De Zoysa and Chan.
The top eight were covered by just over seven tenths of a second, the short tight track always results in tight grids. Goldenport is also notoriously difficult to overtake on therefore the first lap is normally full of action as drivers attempt to make up places before the tyres come up to temperature.
Jonathan Chan resides in Hong Kong and is hoping to perform well in front of his Countrymen. “I am still learning how to drive these cars and the data shows I can be much faster so I really hope to make up a few places tomorrow”, reported Chan. Team Mate Aaron Lim is also hoping to improve tomorrow. “Like Jonathan I can see where I can improve and I know I am capable or running with the top three. I just need some luck on the first lap!”
Dejan de Zoysa is also confident he will race better than he qualified. “I am learning all the time and I have generally raced better than I have qualified so with some luck my aim is to finish in the top ten” said Dejan.
