Tanart Sathienthirakul finished second in race two of the Formula Masters China Series event being held this weekend at the new Inje Circuit in Korea. He was backed up by his team mate, Matthew Solomon, who was fourth whilst third Eurasia Motorsport driver, Pu Jun Jin, was fifth overall and China Driver Class winner.
Race one saw Tanart start on the front row with Solomon in third place. In wet conditions Tanart made a slow start and slotted into third place whilst Solomon went off at T16 and rejoined further down the field. The top three opened a gap to the pack and for some time it looked like Tanart would finish on the podium However a small mistake saw him drop back into the clutches of Akash who swept by when Tanart ran wide. He finished fifth after another off track excursion whilst his less experienced team mate, Solomon, took the flag in sixth place – a fine effort considering it was his first fully wet race. Pu Jun Jin finished first in the China Driver Class, taking the lead of the Class Championship. He had started 14th after an off in qualifying and drove a forceful race to finish 9th overall.
Race two started under the safety car in extremely wet conditions and ended under the safety car due to several cars being stranded on track. Under racing conditions Tanart drove a controlled race to take second place whilst Solomon and Pu Jun Jin both made progress to finish 4th and 5th. The latter now has a commanding lead in the China Driver Class Championship.
The final two races of the weekend take place on Sunday 11th August.
