Eurasia Motorsport finished a nail biting qualifying session with Richard Bradley setting the pole position time by just 0.010 of a second from Oak Racing’s Ho Pin Tung. “Once again we have demonstrated an Asian based team can compete with the best in the World” remarked Team Principal Mark Goddard. “The Oreca Nissan is a great package and along with Eurasia engineering it allows us to give Oak a run for their money”. Asian based Bradley is joined by Mainland Chinese Driver, Pu Jun Jin, and British driver, John Hartshorne. The three hour race will take place on Sunday August 31st.
Practice on Friday had seen Oak slightly quicker than the Eurasia car but the team were confident they had a shot at pole position as number one driver, Bradley, only completed a handful of laps to give newcomers to Fuji, Pu Jun Jin and John Hartshorne as many laps as possible. Pu Jun Jin, who won the Chinese Driver Class in the Formula Masters China Series last year with Eurasia, was very impressive in practice, only Bradley and Ho Pin Tung being faster.
Bradley was quickly up to speed in qualifying setting a 1m 34.495 with Ho Pin .8 seconds down. Both drivers then pitted and it was decided to sit the session out in order to save tyres for the race. Ho Pin rejoined and it looked like the Eurasia pole was safe until a great effort from the Oak driver almost robbed the team of pole at the chequered flag. It was gamble that paid off but it was certainly close. Bradley and the team were confident he would have been able to set a faster time if needed.
