Twenty year old Japanese driver, Sho Hanawa, has confirmed he will contest the 2009 Formula 3 Australia Drivers Championship in a Team Goddard Dallara Mercedes. Hanawa has been testing with the team and setting some competitive lap times making both driver and team confident that he will be at the sharp end of the grid for the first race at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide street race on March 19-22nd.
Hanawa has had three partial seasons in UK Formula Renault and despite his relative lack of experience has impressed the team with his speed during testing at the Sepang F1 Circuit in Malaysia and Mallala near Adelaide. “We know it is going to be challenge to win in Australia because it is a very hard fought championship but we are confident we will be competitive this season with Sho behind the wheel” reported Team boss, Mark Goddard.
The team will be testing at Mallala again on March 12th and 13th prior to the first event at Adelaide. “Ideally we would like to run two drivers and we hope that we can sign up a team mate for Sho prior to the first event” stated Goddard.
