Fielding a three-car line-up this weekend (28 – 30 July, 2017) Eurasia Motorsport enjoyed a successful programme at the Chinese Zhuhai International Circuit, with Danial Nielsen Frost securing his maiden victory for the team.
Frost, undoubtedly a star for the future, was joined by Nazim Azman – the Malaysian driver making his debut in the series – and Kurt Hill. All three drivers showed strong pace and underlined the team’s push for championship success.
The breakout result came in the second race of three, where Frost claimed a sensational pole position and controlled the pace from the front of the field to record his first Formula Masters victory. Hill meanwhile finished in seventh with Azman one place further back after bogging down at the start.
“I was a little nervous at the start especially with (Tomoki) Takahashi starting beside me,” Frost recalled. “I am not sure what happened to him but I did come under some pressure from Daniel (Lu) at the start but after the second lap I was able to pull out a gap and pull away, staying consistent and focused. I am really pleased to win today!”
The first race of the weekend proved troublesome with all three drivers encountering difficulties, ahead of the second event. The third and final race saw Hill finish a strong fourth, Frost fifth and Azman eighth. Frost’s car suffered a bent wishbone after contact, while Azman was tapped into a spin, curtaining what he had hoped would be a stronger finish.
“Relatively speaking it was a good weekend for the team in Zhuhai as Danial got his first win which will undoubtedly be the first of many,” said team principal Mark Goddard. “Kurt ended well, while Nazim showed a great deal of promise and is surely one to watch in the future.”
The Formula Masters Series now takes a short break before reconvening at Shanghai International Circuit on September 22-14 for rounds 15 through to 18 in the championship.
