James Cai and Kenneth Lim were victorious in a very wet Blancpain GT Series Asia Series finale held today (15 October) at the Zhejiang Circuit in China in the #69 CMRT Eurasia Aston Martin Vantage GT3.
Following victory on Saturday, a repeat today was the only way to guarantee a championship victory and Lim streaked away after the safety car start with a 14 second gap after the first racing lap over championship rival Yue Lin and 30 seconds over championship leader Andrew Haryanto who had a first lap moment.
Lim proceeded to increase the gap with a brilliant drive in terrible conditions. Lin was the first to take their compulsory pit stop handing over to Zheng with Haryanto stopping next and Lim handing over to James Cai at the end of the pit stop window.
After the pit stops had cycled through Cai held a 27 second gap over Zheng and 50 seconds over Haryanto. Cai controlled the gap taking the flag 16 seconds ahead of Zheng with Haryanto a further 34 seconds behind.
Both CMRT Eurasia drove brilliantly in terrible conditions to take a thoroughly deserved Am Class Championship win.
“The goal before the season was to win the class and today James and Kenneth demonstrated they are worthy champions with great performances in terrible conditions,” stated Team Manager Martin Quick.
