Eurasia Motorsport driver Daniel Ricciardo was disappointed to finish third after holding second place for all but the last half a lap of the race. Aaron Lim was fourth, Zahir Ali sixth and Dominic Storey was seventh after starting from a pit lane.
The drama began on the warm up lap when Storey ground to a halt at the esses, a fault in an additional loom fitted to the car by the BMW scrutineer bringing the New Zealander to a standstill. The team was able to connect the original loom and Dominic was able to start from the pit lane but his chance of winning was effectively gone.
Sam Abay made a good start from pole position and for the first few laps he was hounded by a fired up Daniel Ricciardo. However once Earl Bamber had found a way past his team mate, James Grunwell, he quickly closed on Ricciardo and their ensuing battle allowed Abay to pull away. Bamber could not find a way past Ricciardo, who drove a great race under extreme pressure, until turn three on the last lap when the young Australian selected first instead of second gear and this allowed Bamber alongside and into second place. “A great drive from Daniel and he has shown after three third places in a row he can race for the lead” reported Quick.
Aaron Lim finished fourth after a great battle with James Grunwell. Once past he never looked really threatened and Grunwell came under attack from Zahir Ali, the Eurasia Motorsport driver just failing to find a way past. Storey was closing on these three after fighting his way into seventh place but simply ran out of laps to catch up.
The third race of the weekend will be one to watch!
