Nick de Bruijn joins Eurasia Motorsport’s Asian Le Mans Series (AsLMS) programme for the Thai round of the championship at the ultra-modern Chang International Circuit in Buriram (9-10 January).
The Chang International Circuit is located on the Southern outskirts of Buriram, 400km East of Bangkok, and the ultra-modern 4.5km-long racetrack boasts a fascinating and technically challenging 12-corner configuration, penned by German architect Hermann Tilke.
While unfamiliar with the Buriram circuit, De Bruijn is no stranger to Eurasia Motorsport, having teamed-up with the all-Asian outfit for his maiden full-time season in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) in 2015.
He and fellow ELMS debutant, Kevin Pu Jun Jin, established themselves as regular top five finishers and a podium threat as they acclimatised to the headlining LMP2 class and de Bruijn’s knowledge and experience of the Oreca 03R Nissan prototype will pay dividends when he partners 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Richard Bradley and William Lok in the #99 Eurasia Motorsport entry, which breached the top three in the most recent AsLMS encounter in Malaysia.
However, for the first time ever Eurasia Motorsport will field two prototype racecars. The #9 Oreca LMP2 will be run under the Jagonya Ayam with Eurasia banner for Indonesia’s Sean Gelael and Italy’s Antonio Giovinazzi and the strength and depth of its expanded driver line-up fills the team with confidence.
Eurasia Motorsport Team Principal, Mark Goddard, said: “Nick (de Bruijn) is replacing Tacksung Kim for this event. Tack is unable to finish the year and Nick was an obvious choice to fill the gap. We are now looking for a replacement for the final round at Sepang on 24 January, as Nick is not available due to clashing commitments. This will be first time we have run two LMP2 cars at a single event and I believe we have a very strong driver line-up. We are also running the DC Racing LMP3 car, so it is going to be a busy weekend.”
