Eurasia Motorsport ended the inaugural FRD LMP3 Series in style today (17 September) at Zhuhai International Circuit, claiming a sensational runner-up position, matching the great result achieved in the opening race of the weekend.
Dan Wells started the race from second position in the #91, with the sister #3 Ligier of Martin Cao directly behind. The duo battled hard from the start, running side-by-side for much of the first lap before Wells was able to secure the position and start to pull a small margin.
This set the tone for the opening stints with Wells pitting from second and handing over to Alex Au. Cao pitted for Garnet Patterson to take over and following a strong drive, the Australian managed to work his way up to a remarkable second position at the chequered flag.
The result was especially significant as the team had to endure the extra pit stop time of 30 seconds due to the driver grading. Au meanwhile brought the #91 car home in a strong fourth position.
“That result is much better than we thought we could achieve today,” team principal Mark Goddard stated. “The extra time in the pits is difficult for us and to finish just 20 seconds behind the race winner shows that we have the pace to win races outright.
“We’re really looking forward to returning to the championship next year where we’ve been assured that the mandatory stops will be adjusted to give those with a competitive package the chance of winning races. As it is, two second positions in the final race weekend of the series is a fantastic result for the drivers and team.”
