Matt Solomon qualified on pole position for race one and finished third after a tardy start but made amends with a dominant win in race two. This was his first Formula Car victory and now places him in second place in the driver’s championship.
Pu Jun Jin qualified sixth for race one with team mate, Bo Yuan, starting 7th. Pole man Solomon bogged down at the start allowing Munro and Wells to get by whilst Bo Yuan out braked himself at turn four putting himself out of the race and resulting in the safety car being called. Regrettably Pu Jin Jun was tagged in the accident forcing him to pit to change his front wing. He was able to rejoin and join the back of the safety car line. He then drove well to reach 8th by the flag. Meanwhile Solomon was all over Wells for second place but could not find a way past.
Solomon started race two from second on the grid and this time made a great start to take the lead from Munro. After the first few turns he never looked threatened and drove a measured race to score his first win. Bo Yuan finished 7th after starting 15th on the grid, due to non-finishing race one, making amends for his first race with a fine measured drive. Pu Jun Jin was unlucky to be tagged by another car which again meant he was forced to pit to change his front wing. This time the lack of a safety car put him two laps down.
“We are so happy for Matt” reports Team Principal Mark Goddard “and I am sure the flood gates will now open and he will win more races”. Races three and four (replacement race for the Zhuhai race cancelled due to bad weather) take place tomorrow, July 20th.
