The Craft Eurasia Racing Ford GT3 driven by Frank Yu and Darryl O’Young won an exciting end of season 500kms event held at Zhuhai Circuit in China. After qualifying on the front row the Ford dropped to fourth in the first stint but with 10 minutes to go in the three hour race the team had fought its way back to second place which became first after the leading Audi damaged a drive-shaft.
Frank Yu started alongside the Descombes/Avila Radical but dropped to fourth after making an unscheduled pre-cautionary pit stop to check the gearbox. Over the following two hours the team gradually made its way back to the front, the drivers having to be careful not to overtax the brakes on a circuit which is notoriously hard on them. It looked like they would have to settle for second when the leading Audi of Lee and Fong stopped with a broken driveshaft. O’Young was in the gravel trap at the time having run out of brakes but he was able to extricate himself from the gravel and drive slowly to the flag.
The 2012 season is now over and the team looks forward to 2013, next years racing starting in January with the Dubai 24 Hours.
