Ananda Mikola was the class of the Renault V6 field today, battling his way from last on the grid to second place in the Sprint Race before dominating the Grand Race in front of his home crowd. “My Eurasia Motorsport car was perfect!” said a delighted Mikola
Mikola started the sprint race from last on the grid after his suspension failure on the first lap of qualifying. Karun Chandock won the sprint race taking an early lead after Matt Halliday went off on the first lap. Mikola methodically picked his way through the field and once in second was closing on the leader before simply running out of laps. Hamad was third from Halliday.
The Grand Race saw Karun take the lead, just, from Mikola. The latter was really charging and for two laps put the Indian under tremendous pressure before finding a way past in a brave move into the first turn. Once past he quickly drove away leaving Chandock to fend off Hamad and Halliday. Halliday was soon past both and chased after Ananda without looking liking he was serious threat to the Indonesian. The race was red flagged with 13 laps to go due to a car stopped in a dangerous position but at the re-start Mikola simply drove away, just easing off with a couple of laps to go. Chandock dropped out with mechanical problems whilst Hamad ignored the flag for a jump start drive through penalty and was eventually black flagged. This promoted Hanns Lin to third and Moreno Soeprapto to fourth.
The next V6 race is at Zhuhai in China and Mikola knows it well after his Asian F3 races there last year.
