Parth Ghorpade took his second win of the weekend in race three of the Formula Pilota Series held at the Guangdong International Circuit in China. His team mates, Antonio Giovinazzi and Sean Gelael, were second and third respectively. Giovinazzi leads the drivers championship from Dan Wells, Ghorpade and Gelael whilst Ghorpade is first in the Asian Driver Class with a narrow lead over Gelael.

Ghorpade made a great start to lead Gelael, Giovinazzi, Wells and Nagabuchi. Ghorpade gradually built up a gap, setting fastest lap after fastest lap to build a five second lead which he then held to the flag. Gelael had looked like he was going to make a challenge early on but he soon had Giovinazzi closing the gap. Wells and Nagabuchi were close, less than two seconds covering the four drivers in the chasing pack at the flag. It looked like the positions were settled until Giovinazzi found a way past Gelael on the final lap.

“A great day for the team” reported Eurasia’s Mark Goddard. “The event has been a roller coaster ride but to have two wins out of three races, a one-two-three and to top both qualifying sessions has made it a memorable weekend. The final two events are at our home track, the Sepang F1 circuit, and it looks like it will be great battle for the championship between our three drivers and Dan Wells.”

Race two of the weekend was less successful as Ghorpade was hit from behind at turn one and finished 8th with suspension damage whilst Giovinazzi spun and retired. Gelael finished 4th after spinning when pushing for second place.

The fifth event of the series will be held at the Sepang F1 circuit in Malaysia on November 4th.
