Eurasia Motorsport driver, Australian Daniel Ricciardo, started round 8 from second on the grid, grabbed the lead from pole sitter Sam Abay at the first turn and led for ten of the twenty laps before succumbing to pressure from Abay. Aaron Lim finished fourth, Zahir Ali 8th after spinning and Dominic Storey 9th due to clashing with James Grunwell.

Dominic Storey settled into third place at the start and while the two leaders pulled away slightly he had to soak up pressure from Grunwell and Earl Bamber. Grunwell made a very late lunge into turn one and clashed wheels with Storey, forcing the New Zealander into a spin. It was all action as on the same lap Bamber retired to the pits with a mechanical problem. This left Lim in fourth with Mohammed Albaharna right on his tail. Mo found a way past Lim who immediately retaliated and forced his way back into fourth place. Whilst this was going on Zahir Ali had closed on Mo and went side by side into turn seven. Whilst he came out in front unfortunately he was going backwards and lost the place!

Grunwell spun at the final turn allowing Lim to close right in but the Malaysian was unable to find a way past.

“This is a great result for Daniel, he now knows he can lead in Formula BMW Asia and he is definitely going to be a factor for the rest of the season” said Eurasia’s Mark Goddard. “Dominic also has shown he is going to be competitive, his second place in the first race proving that. His luck just needs to change. Aarom Lim and Zahir Ali also have the pace, they just need some luck and we can have all four cars up the front for the next round in Sentul, Indonesia”
