Daniel Ricciardo took the lead into the first corner for the start of round 12 of the Formula BMW Asia Series at the Bira Circuit in Thailand and went on to take an accomplished win from Bamber and Abay. Dominic Storey was a competitive fourth from Aaron Lim whilst Zahir Ali suffered bent suspension after a collision with James Grunwell.

Qualifying had been a tense affair with the top spot alternating between Ricciardo, Bamber, Abay and Lim. Three tenths of a second covered these four drivers, the final order being Bamber, Ricciardo, Abay and Lim. Dominic Storey qualified fifth with Zahir Ali seventh.

Ricciardo drove around the outside of Bamber at the first turn and these two pulled away from Abay and battling Lim and Storey. Lim had a huge moment at the fast chicane allowing Storey past but delaying both in the process. Zahir Ali was hit by Grunwell bending a front trackrod spoiling his race.

The gap between the front two ebbed and flowed but Ricciardo never looked really threatened. The leading duo caught a back marker at the turn two hairpin with about seven laps to go in the 20 lap race and Bamber lost time getting by giving Ricciardo an easy ride to the flag.

Tomorrow, Sunday September 3rd, will see two more races and Ricciardo is confident he will make it a clean sweep of wins. Storey and Lim are confident they can join fellow Eurasia Motorsport driver Ricciardo on the podium tomorrow. Zahir Ali will have an interesting race from the back of the grid, a top six finish being his aim.
