The first F.BMW race of the Shanghai GP weekend ended in complete disaster for Eurasia team mates, Kyle Mitchell and Akhil Khushlani, after they were involved in a first lap incident. Mitchell retired from the race whilst Khushlani dropped to the back of the field and made a great comeback drive to eleventh place.

Mitchell had qualified 5th overall first in the rookie class with Khushlani third in class, 8th overall. At the start Akhil made a fantastic start and was up to third place by the exit of turn one with Kyle glued to his gearbox. At turn two another competitor hit the back of Mitchell’s car forcing him into the side of Khushlani spinning the latter round. Akhil rejoined over 20 seconds behind the pack but got his head down and charged back to 11th pace despite a very bent steering arm. “The car was very difficult to drive as it wanted to turn off the circuit even when I was on the straights” reported Kushlani.

Drivers and team hope for better luck in the second event of the weekend which will take place on Sunday morning before the F1 Grand Prix.
