BMW today announced that they will no longer support Formula BMW in Europe and Pacific from 2011. AFOS, the promoter and organizer of the F.BMW Pacific Series since its inception in 2003, has confirmed a new series using the same Mygale chassis with Mygale parts support. The current media and television package will remain in place. Read on for the full AFOS statement.
Eurasia Motorsport has confirmed they will enter cars in the new championship which will continue to offer a viable cost effective career path for young drivers. “Formula BMW in Asia has developed many World class drivers in its eight seasons and the new Formula will continue to offer the same professional environment for drivers to develop their talent” stated Eurasia Motorsport’s Mark Goddard. “The media and TV package is second to none and AFOS continue as organizer and promoter so in fact as far as drivers and teams are concerned there will be very little difference in the way the series is run.”

Following the announcement by BMW Motorsport today that they are to axe the Formula BMW Series, Motorsport Asia who have been the Formula BMW Pacific Series Organiser and Promoter since its inception, announced the continuation of the Series in an independent form.
“We have been aware that BMW have been considering withdrawing for quite some time and are well advanced with our plans to continue the Series independently. We already have the full support of Mygale for the spare parts and everything else in place to continue. We also have the full support of all of the Teams and we jointly recognize that there is a vital need for this Series in Asia. I would like to take this opportunity to thank BMW Motorsport for their support since 2003. It has been a very good relationship, which has seen the development of many young and talented drivers from the Series. We fully intend to continue this,” stated David Sonenscher CEO of Motorsport Asia.
“I do not expect there to be too much change to the format or the quality of the Series. We have planned a six event Series, just as in the present year and all of the existing Media and Television exposure will remain in place. Our existing structure is strong enough to support the Series even without the involvement of BMW.”
“I am holding meetings in Silverstone with the European Teams tomorrow and next week back in Asia with the Asian based Teams to decide on some of the minor details. We will make a further announcement very shortly but as far as we are concerned it is pretty much business as usual,” he added.
