Ligier P2 testing

The first of Eurasia Motorsport’s Ligier JS P217 LMP2 cars hit the track in Sepang, Malaysia in a two-day test (29-30 July 2019) for the team ahead of the upcoming 2019/20 Asian Le Mans Series.

The team completed over 1000 kms of faultless running with Nobuya Yamanaka who was supported by previous Asian Le Mans LMP3 teammate and coach, Aidan Read and friend and Toyota Super Formula and Super GT driver, Nick Cassidy.

This was the first time that the latest specification of LMP2 car has been seen in Asia where the car will be eligible to compete in the Pro class of the ACO’s flagship Asian Series this coming season.

In what was an extremely successful first outing for the team, the potential of the new specification car was there to be seen with times significantly inside the existing lap record for LMP2 at the Sepang track.

“This is the first of a series of planned tests for us at Sepang and the results were extremely encouraging,” said Team Principal Mark Goddard. “We knew the car would be fast in the hands of the Pro drivers and it certainly was, but the pace of Nobu in his first experience of LMP2 machinery was impressive, recording times that would have put him on a par with the Pro drivers in the older spec car.

“We have our second Ligier JSP 217 arriving later this month and hope to step up our testing mileage over the next couple of months, testing prospective drivers for a second car in the Asian Le Mans Series.”

Details of the teams’ driver line up for the first Asian Le Mans entry will be announced in the next couple of weeks with details of further cars in both the P2 and P3 categories to follow.

Any suitably qualified drivers wishing to join the programme with Eurasia Motorsport should get in touch.
