Parth Ghorpade won the Asian Driver Class Championship in the best possible fashion with a lights to flag win in a rain affected race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. Team Mate, Sean Gelael, was third overall whilst new Champion, Antonio Giovinazzi was amongst five drivers who crashed at the final turn when confronted with a wall of water in a sudden downpour on the last lap. Sean Hudspeth was hit at the start and failed to finish.

Ghorpade beat fellow front row starter, Giovinazzi, to turn one and was never headed. Giovinazzi led a huge squabbling group which featured many place changes over the race. Dan Wells eventually broke free and settled into second whilst Giovinazzi was caught and passed by Sean Gelael with a lap to go, the latter having fought his way up from the back of the grid.

Ghorpade and Wells took the chequered lfag as the heavens opened at the final turn. Gelael slthered through to finish third whilst behind chaos ensued as the drivers lost control in the huge lake that formed within seconds. Giovinazzi was hit by someone and speared off into the gravel to be joined by four other cars turning the gravel trap into a car park.

Ghorpade now cannot be caught for the Asian Driver’s Championship wrapping up a triple crown for Eurasia Motorsport with the Overall Driver and Team Championships already won.

The final race of the season takes place on Saturday morning
