Daniel Ricciardo finished a battling third in Round 16 of the Formula BMW Asia Series held at the Shanghai F1 GP event. In a thrilling end to the race Ricciardo and Bamber passed and re-passed each other several times. Dominic Storey was fourth from Aaron Lim and Zahir Ali.

Sam Abay took the lead at the start from Ricciardo and Storey. Storey had his hands full fending off Earl Bamber whilst Ricciarido was pushing Abay hard for the lead. Once past Storey, Bamber soon caught the leaders and the ensuing battle with Ricciardo allowed Abay to pull away. Bamber eventually found a way past at the final haripin with a couple of laps to go but Ricciardo immediately fought back re-taking the place at the fast turn seven. Bamber fought back and outbraked the Australian at the final hairpin.

Dominic Storey struggled with a lack of grip and finished fourth whilst Aaron Lim followed him home in fifth. Zahir Ali again made a poor start and dropped to the rear of the field but he was soon back to sixth place after taking three cars in one go at the final hairpin, probably the best pass of the event.

The final event of the year will take place at Zhuhai on October 21/22nd.
