Driver Release: Australian Formula BMW Junior – Chris Wootton – is in the final stages of preparation to compete at Asia-Pacific’s most glamorous motorsport event – the Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix – where Formula BMW Pacific acts as the curtain raiser to the main event.
The Singapore event is important to the 20-year-old in more ways than one. He attracts significant sponsorship support from Singapore, ensuring he has a busy week connecting with sponsors – such as First Automobile and Fraser Place and appearances at the One 15 Degree Marina – in the week leading up to the Grand Prix.
After a strong performance at the only night Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar last year, Wootton is hoping that he can turn things around on the biggest stage there is and show his true potential in front of the Formula 1 paddock.

Wootton’s team, Eurasia Motorsport currently sits third in the Team’s Classification and is still in with a strong mathematical chance of winning that Title.
Aside from the concrete canyon that lines the Marina Bay circuit, Wootton will have numerous other challenges to contend with, namely a late afternoon schedule for all sessions and the prediction of thunderstorms to go with humid temperatures well into the 30’s (C).

BEHIND THE HELMET: Chris Wootton

“In my opinion, the Singapore Grand Prix is the best event on the Formula BMW Pacific calendar, it’s a great circuit and a very unique challenge.

“It supports one of the best F1 events of the year and the spectacle of Formula 1 at night has no peer – it has to be seen to be believed.

“The people in Singapore are always friendly and the country is very clean, which is lovely. I really feel comfortable going there, it’s a fabulous place.

“I’m really hoping for a breakthrough win at the Grand Prix, there can be nothing better than winning a race in support to a Formula 1 event.

“We have achieved some great results this season, I hold the lap record at the Sepang circuit and had had a collection of podiums and pole positions. “Overall, this event is very important to me. I have fantastic support from First Automobile, Fraser Place and the One 15 Degree Marina in Singapore. We’re really looking forward to spending some time with our sponsors leading up to the event and seeing them come out to the race.”
