Following the podium results on Saturday at Shanghai International Circuit, Eurasia Motorsport were back in action again today (24 September) in both Formula Masters Asian Series and Blancpain GT Asia Series, claiming a double podium in the former, and securing third position in the championship for Danial Frost.
Rain once again struck the circuit, resulting in a safety car starts for the first Formula Masters race of the day. Frost and Kurt Hill qualified sixth and ninth respectively, the former making an immediate jump to run in fifth position and pressuring the car ahead in fourth. As the duo battled for position, the leading cars were able to pull out a small margin. Frost duly gained position and set about closing the gap to the leaders
It was now a four-car battle for the lead with Frost all over Danial Lu for third and after an intense battle that saw positions change numerous times, Frost was able to make third his own. He then set about catching the second position car, but with the race drawing to a close, settled for the final step on the podium, consolidating his championship position.
Kurt Hill had a great race for position which saw five cars in a long battle and made a season’s worth of passes in one race. After a strong performance, he finished in sixth place following a brave move at the final hairpin on the last lap.
If the first race of the day was wet, the second was especially tricky. Following two laps behind the safety car, Frost raced away from third position, pulling a gap on those behind.
Due to the extremely poor visibility, the leading trio all lapped a second apart but Frost put in a flawless race to take third position in the race and with it, the same position in the championship.
Hill meanwhile had a tougher race from seventh at the start. Making ground initially he ran in sixth, but an off at the final turn resulted in a ninth-place finish.
Meanwhile over in Blancpain GT Series Asia, the CMRT Eurasia Aston Martin Vantage driven by Kenneth Lim and James Cai finished in fourth position in the Am-Am class.
Lim started the race and moved up to second position. However, with a rival traveling slowly under full course yellow, Lim lost time on his in lap and as a result Cai emerged from the pits in third. A battle for position followed before Cai ceded to finish in fourth. The team now look forward to the final round of the series at Zhejiang next month.
