Starting as meaning to go on, Eurasia Motorsport today claimed pole position for the Asian Le Mans Series season finale at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
In a tight and tense qualifying session, local star Nabil Jeffri wasted no time in showing the pace of the #33 Ligier JS P2, vaulting third fastest at the outset before having his time deleted for ‘track limits’.
Following a brief pause in proceedings courtesy of the #4 ARC Bratislava grinding to a halt, Jeffri was back on the pace, claiming the provisional pole on his sixth lap before going even quicker and stopping the clocks with a best of 1:55.424 to claim the pole position by over four-tenths of a second.
“A local driver on pole position, that’s fantastic for us and the Sepang Circuit,” said team principal Mark Goddard. “We had high hopes ahead of the weekend when we announced the line-up of Nabil, Marko (Asmer) and Jake (Parsons), but to get the pole position by that margin was something of a pleasant surprise!
“We’ll enjoy this pole for a few minutes more and then attention turns to the race as we know that anything can happen. All I can add is that this is the perfect start to the weekend and long may it continue.”
