Akhil Kushlani finished a fine fourth overall, second in the rookie class after a storming drive through the field from eleventh on the grid in the very wet and entertaining race. Team mate, Kyle Mitchell, failed to finish after spinning out of the lead.
Mitchell surged into the lead at turn two on the first lap after Zahir Ali, Jack Lemvar and Jazman fell over themselves and left the door open for Kyle to take all three at the same time. Into the next corner Jazman dived up the inside and took the lead. It all went wrong for Mitchell after contact with Jazman at turn nine, spinning him out of the lead. He rejoined in 14th place which became last after a drive through penalty for regaining his starting position after a warm up lap spin saw him drop to the back of the field. He finally went off into the gravel when he was back in seventh place but had done enough laps to be classified 12th.
Akhil had kept his head and was already up to fourth place by the third lap. He was right in touch with the leaders when the safety car came out on five. At the re-start he slotted into fourth and the drove a sensible race to the finish to score valuable points. “I was locking the brakes after the safety car so it was very difficult but I am really happy to have finished fourth” said a happy Kushlani.
Lemvard won from Jazman and Ross Jamison.
Akhil will start fourth on the grid for the final race of the weekend whilst Kyle will be 13th.
