Daniel Ricciardo led, spun in a wheel to battle with Earl Bamber then crashed out spoiling what had been a perfect weekend. Aaron Lim made it two second places in a row whilst Dominic Storey bounced back from his previous race crash to complete the podium. Zahir Ali drove well from the back of the grid to finish fourth.
An inconsiderate driver in the previous race for Super Cars blew his engine and dropped copious amounts of oil around the entire track. Even more sand was used on the oil resulting in a truly treacherous track surface. Ricciardo made another great start to lead from Bamber, Abay, Lim and Storey. The front two pulled slightly away from the pursuing pack after Abay pulled off to take a stop and go penalty for jumping the start and he fell to the back of the field. Ricciardo looked comfortable at the front until a slight mistake at the first chicane allowed Bamber alongside into the second chicane. Ricciardo fought back but got on the oil under braking for the final hairpin and spun away the lead. He had caught James Grunwell in sixth place a few laps later when he understeered off at the fast turn four and hit the wall resulting in a badly damaged car.
Meanwhile the top three, Bamber, Lim and Storey were not troubling each other and that’s how they stayed to the flag. Zahir Ali made it a second, third and fourth for Eurasia.
The next round is the support race for the Shanghai F1 GP and all four Eurasia drivers are full of confidence and certain they can perform well in front of the F1 circus.
